Is an IPL the same as a laser? and how does it work?

No, they are not the same however they share the same principle. When either is used, light energy is converted into heat which is absorbed by the skin or by the capillaries (small arteries). Lasers accomplish this by using a single wavelength, while IPL uses multiple wavelengths. The heat created by an IPL results in skin resurfacing, improvement in hyper-pigmented areas, increase collagen and decrease redness. It also fights bacteria that cause acne and help with the healing of acne scars.

How long is the procedure?

Approximately 30 min

Is it suitable for all?

No! Not suitable for darker skin tones and for those who have had ANY form of tanning in the past month. See Laser Genesis and medical grade peels.

Is it painful?

There can be a stinging sensation with each pulse delivered. A soothing gel is applied which minimizes any discomfort.

How many treatment are needed?

On average 2-3, one month apart. More may be required for individuals with more skin damage or significant hyper-pigmentation.

When to expect result

In 2-4 weeks. The darkened spots will fake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.

Downtime?

Almost none. While some mild redness and swelling may be experienced, these usually fade quickly. There are no restrictions of activities following a treatment. You may return to work following the procedure. Patients must wear sunscreen (mineral is preferred) continuously for maximum results. Note: There is an initial darkening and possible crusting of treated hyper- pigmented areas which fades away within few days.

What is a “2D Facial”
